We were very saddened to learn of the death of our classmate, Lee Mestres in May of this

Born in Manhattan, NY he was the son of the late Ricardo A. and Anita Gwynne Mestres and
lived in Stonington for six years. Lee served his government faithfully since his graduation
from Princeton in 1957. Additionally, he was a successful fine art dealer and aspiring

his knowledge willingly.

He is survived by two sons, Lee G. Mestres, Jr. of Medford, NJ; Timothy Craig Mestres of
Warwick, RI; two daughters, Michele Lynn George; Nicole Ann McDonnell of Alexandria, VA
and a brother, Ricardo A. Mestres Jr. of New York, NY.

We  received the sad news that Chester (Chet) H. Wagner
H'49, revered French Master and Master in Davidson House

Mr. Wagner came to Lawrenceville in September 1948 from
Blair Academy. A graduate of Dickinson College and the
University of Pennsylvania, he served in the US Army from
1942 until 1946. While at Lawrenceville, he taught French and
English, coached varsity wrestling, and was Housemaster in
Davidson from 1948 - 1951, Assistant Master of Raymond
1951-1954 and Master of Kinnan from 1954 - 1955. He retired
in 1977 after twenty-nine years of service to Lawrenceville.
Vern Loucks writes: “Linda and I went to Scottsdale for a couple of weeks beginning
Christmas night. Louis and his wife Dena, joined us along with Reece, our grandson, and
Wrigley, our granddaughter. Though a bit cold for the first few days the sun and 70s
weather arrived soon enough for everyone to play golf or swim without risking frostbite.
Last weekend Louie and I played Pebble Beach and Spyglass with Johnny Miller with whom
we have become good friends. Rained all day Friday, beautiful on Saturday but either way,
we had a ball on two really great golf courses.”

Doug Love writes: “Besides owning a “black box” hedge fund start-up and a Bermuda-
based institutional securities broker-dealer, I am beginning my seventh year as chairman of
the state of New Jersey Investment Council (public pension funds) – ‘rearranging the deck
chairs of the Titantic.’ Daughters are in Annapolis and Amelia Island (with three
grandkids) Peggy is still a paddle tennis champ.”

Colin Thompson writes: “My life has been uneventful if you discount surviving the
monumental amounts of snow that have blanketed the DC area since just before Christmas.
Never has so much snow fallen in one winter in DC’s recorded history. Enough!”
“A granddaughter, Eloise, was born to my daughter, Tam, in October 2009. She joined
grandson, Benjamin, who turned three in November. They seem to be doing fine - in spite of
their parents, as grandparents are known to say from time to time.
I’m in sporatic contact with Larry Heilman, whom I last saw in August 2009, along with
Bob Armstrong. I’m also in touch with Peter Balbach. His son, Stephen, who lives near me,
had major spinal surgery last summer. As of December, recovery was slow and occupies
Pete’s
mind and time.”

   As we’ve previously reported,
Bob Rosefsky had a major stroke about two years ago
and he’s had a tough time with the aftermath. Linda Sue sends me periodic updates on Bob’
s progress, the latest of which noted that he was continuing with his physical therapy three
time a week. He’s not able to walk yet, but there is lots of progress. You can email Linda
Sue at soos@dc.rr.com to send along a message to Bob.

   I talk to
Ron Roth regularly about investments, the state of our country and things
friend discuss. Ron is an investment manager through his firm, Permanent Value, Inc.

Colin Thompson e-mailed: “I had lunch with Rod Correll and his wife, Chloe, as they
headed back to Johnstown, NY, after a trip to Florida. They were in good health and
spirits. He had stopped to see Anne and
Larry Heilman in Washington on the drive south
and Mary and
Pete Balbach in South Carolina on the return north.”

I am still working with VerityPoint, an independent firm we started over two years
ago. Jane and I have six kids and 13 grandchildren spread around the country: Connecticut,
New York, Texas, and California. Holidays are a little hectic! Our travels have been
domestic recently – Carmel, Hawaii, Portland (OR), and trips to see our families
– but we will be in Paris in late April to celebrate our anniversary. My publication
for readers, The Readers Exchange, is now in its 20th year. You can see it at www.the-
readers-exchange.com.
